Q9 Opens New $20 Million Calgary Data Centre
More than 22 per cent of capacity booked prior to opening
Toronto, ON - April 3, 2007 - Q9 Networks Inc. (TSX:Q), a leading Canadian provider of outsourced data centre infrastructure, is pleased to report the opening of its second Calgary data centre. The data centre opens with more than 22 per cent of its capacity already reserved by new and existing customers, including a previously announced anchor tenant.
The new data centre has a total capacity of 1,200 cabinet equivalents and was built at a total cost of approximately $20 million. Located outside the downtown core, the new Calgary data centre provides a state-of-the-art environment that can be used as a primary facility or as an active disaster recovery site. Biometric security systems, video surveillance, on-site security officers and redundant power, HVAC and fire-suppression systems ensure the highest levels of security and reliability for customer equipment.
"Today's announcement marks another successful milestone as we execute the largest expansion of data centre space currently underway in Canada," said Osama Arafat, CEO, Q9 Networks. "I am also delighted to report that we have succeeded in booking orders for almost one quarter of the data centre's capacity, with customers beginning to install immediately. We expect to see a gradual increase in revenue from these customer installations as contracted deployment schedules are completed over the coming months and years. We are very well situated to meet continued strong demand in Alberta and further solidify our leadership position in this key market."
Q9 designs, builds and operates its data centres to meet the most demanding IT infrastructure requirements, including the increased power and cooling demands of today's high density computing devices. With the opening of this facility, Q9 continues to set the standard for high availability data centres in Canada.
Customers connect to the Internet via Q9's unique network and are protected by Q9's 100 percent, SLA-backed uptime guarantees on both power and network availability. Customer equipment and the facility's environmental parameters are monitored 7x24 by Q9's Control Centre, staffed by experts versed in all aspects of IT and facilities management.
The new Calgary data centre is the second of three major expansion projects scheduled to open in 2007. The other projects include a new 1,000 cabinet equivalent data centre in Toronto that opened in January 2007 and a 1,200 cabinet equivalent expansion of Q9's Brampton data centre scheduled to open in the fall of 2007. When complete, these expansions will establish Q9 as one of the largest operators of data centre facilities in Canada with a total capacity of more than 7,200 cabinet equivalents. Q9 is expecting to invest a total of approximately $60 million in the new facilities.
